Josh Frizzell

Josh Frizzell is a storyteller at heart, with an uncanny ability to unearth the drama in any situation, whether it's comic or serious. His films pulsate with tension, driven by relatable characters who feel like family, friends, or neighbours, grounding his work in the familiar while fearlessly venturing into the absurd and mysterious.

Born into a family of creative bohemians and artists, Josh's journey into filmmaking began in the art department, where he discovered the transformative power of art direction in shaping characters and narratives. From the moment he set foot on a film set, he was captivated, his sense of wonder and curiosity never waning. His early endeavours in directing led to a string of award-winning music videos, paving the way for a successful career in commercials including an inaugural Cannes Lion in 1996.

Balancing his time between directing commercials and some of New Zealand's biggest TV shows, including "Friend's Like Her" and "A Remarkable Place To Die", Josh continues to push boundaries and captivate audiences, approaching each project with fresh eyes, drawing from the depth of his experiences while embracing new challenges.

Renowned for his unparalleled skills and boundless work ethic, Josh is a master of his craft. From humble in-camera techniques to grand visual effects, he navigates seamlessly between the heights of hilarity and the depths of drama. Collaborating with both Hollywood elites and undiscovered local talents, he crafts stories that resonate on a global scale.
